President Trump is reportedly still in favor of a red, white and blue color scheme for Boeing's (BA) Air Force One, replacing the iconic light blue that Jackie Kennedy made famous.
XThe White House is "evaluating specific red, white, and blue livery options," the Air Force told Bloomberg.
A final decision on the plane's color won't be approved until 2021, and if Trump loses his re-election bid the change could be scrapped.
Last year, the Pentagon officially awarded Boeing a $3.9 billion fixed-price contract to replace the two aging Air Force One jets.
The new jets will be 747-8s and are expected to be completed by December 2024. But Trump wants the Air Force to deliver the plane by December 2023, according to Bloomberg.
Boeing shares rose 1.1% to 354.38 on the stock market today.
How Did Air Force One Become Light Blue?
During the Cold War, President Kennedy asked the Air Force to design a plane that could fly anywhere in the world with just 30 minutes notice. The service proposed a red and orange color scheme with military markings for the plane's livery.
But designer Raymond Loewy, who created the Exxon Mobil (XOM) logo and Coca-Cola's (KO) vending equipment, reportedly criticized the plane's coloring calling it "gaudy" and "amateurish."
Upon hearing the news, style icon Jackie Kennedy pushed for her husband to hire Loewy to design the Air Force One livery. The light robin's egg blue he devised become known as "Jackie Kennedy Blue."
Trump has criticized the color, saying last year he wanted something "more American" and less of a "Jackie Kennedy color," according to Axios.
The first lady also helped design a custom bed, conference room, and a light blue carpet for the plane. She also added Tiffany (TIF) glassware.
