[Collection]Belgian specialty chemical firm Devan Chemicals said it has added cannabidiol, also known as CBD, to its health and wellness textiles solutions portfolio. The company will showcase its new technology at the Heimtextil trade show in Frankfurt on Jan. 8 to 11. Its “R-Vital” sleep-promoting range of micro-encapsulated active ingredients enhances textiles through antioxidative effects, the company said. Its “rich” CBD tincture, or extract, has a “balancing effect that helps facilitate a good night’s sleep,” according to the firm. The integration of CBD into textiles comes as no surprise, as the market for CBD continues to expand rapidly for beauty products and even beverages, among other categories. In fact, CBD will soon be a $22 billion industry, according to researchers at the Brightfield Group, adding that CBD will “profoundly” affect Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) and Pharma. Extracted from hemp, a “non-psychoactive” form of cannabis, the company “has applied its expertise to encapsulate active ingredients or extracts such as CBD and valerian root for use in its sleep-promoting R-Vital range of products. These can be applied to everything from bedding to sleepwear fabrics. When the skin touches the fabric, the resulting friction causes the capsules to break, releasing the ingredients to the body.” The firm added
