Icicle Gets Green Light From French Court To Buy CarvenThe Shanghai-based label said it plans to relaunch Carven in France, in China and abroad.

[Collection]PARIS — A Paris commercial court has selected Chinese company Icicle Fashion Group to purchase French fashion house Carven. The brand, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy with the Paris Commercial Court in May, had been courted by other firms including Axara, Lee Cooper, Cashtex, Philippe Métivier, Market Maker and Red Luxury. In a statement, the Shanghai-based company, known for its eco-friendly line of men’s and women’s wear, said it “intends to relaunch and redeploy Carven’s brand, activities and collections in France, China and the international market.” “Through this acquisition, the fashion house Carven will benefit from the substantial growth of Icicle Group which brings strength and synergy to its development,” the company added. By filing for bankruptcy protection, Carven and its parent company, Société Béranger, cut short a planned revival under the direction of designer Serge Ruffieux, who was hired last year. Already struggling financially, the house was hit with production delays and had to cancel orders, costing it several million euros. The label had sold a majority stake to Hong Kong-based Bluebell Group in 2016, which appointed one of its executives, Sophie de Rougemont, as chief executive officer.
